BalVihar in our temple premises was established over 37 years ago as a forum for teaching children about the Hindu Religion, Culture and history. This program is organized by Hindu Temple & Cultural Center of Kansas City to serve the needs of the Indian community in and around Kansas and Missouri States and is organized and taught by qualified, dedicated volunteers. Parents' help in classroom activities is the key to the ongoing success of Balvihar.

Balvihar is value based moral education, with an emphasis on Indian culture and Spirituality. The core human values imparted in Balvihar are Satya (Truth), Dharma (Right Action), Shanti (Peace), Prema (Love) Ahimsa (Non Violence) and Bhakti(Devotion). These values are further simplified into sub values such as honesty, kindness, obedience, service etc.
Classes are structured by age groups to impart age-appropriate education with arts and craft activities, stories, chanting of shlokas and Vedas, singing bhajans, discussions, projects, and performances. Students are encouraged to exhibit their creativity in acting, music, dance etc and get opportunities to do service in various temple activities. For example, Balvihar has a stall to sell food items in the Diwali and Holi melas manned by the students and parents. Guest lectures and field trips are arranged during the academic year every year.
Balvihar children are periodically blessed with the opportunity to lead bhajans during special functions at the Hindu temple. During major festivals, senior children are asked to give brief talks and presentations on the significance of the celebration.
Minimum age to enroll in the Balvihar program is 4 years. Children are divided among 6 sections depending on their age/grade level. Classes are held from 10:00 -11:00 AM on Sundays except holiday weekends and summer break in local public schools.
